Blues

MP3 File

remember what you told me
remember what you said
you said you'd never leave me
till the day that you were dead
oh this sky is turning purple
this sky, it's like a bruise
    the sky is turning purple
and I have got the blues

you swore you'd never leave me
till the day that you were dead
    remember what you told me
    remember what you said
oh you say that she is loving
you say that she is true
you say that she is loving
    babe, that's no excuse

remember what you told me
remember what you said
you swore you'd never leave me
till the day that you were dead
oh the sky is turning purple
this heart, it's like a bruise
you said you'd never leave me
but I have got the blues

  • Disclaimer

Please do not assume that I am the speaker/ subject of my poems.

In these times of creative nonfiction and fictionalized memoirs, I think of the poem itself as true fiction: it is most likely not factual, but it must be true.

It is likely to be -- it is best if it is -- a truth I did not know before I wrote, and may not understand even then.

A poem is my way of discovering (dis-covering) what I feel; sometimes, what I think -- but it is not necessarily biographical.
